Hello, I’m Kara
 - The British Cat Nanny

I provide reliable, unhurried cat sitting so your cat can remain relaxed, secure, and entirely at ease in their own home.
This is a personal, one-to-one service. When you book with me, you know exactly who is caring for your cat and your home — with consistency, discretion, and genuine attention to detail.
For complete peace of mind, I am also DBS checked and fully insured.

A personal, one-to-one service — you’ll always know exactly who is caring for your cat and your home.

In the evenings, I would put on relaxing cat music and Nala would relax with me on the bed.

Cats have always been a constant in my life, but the way I care for them has been shaped most by cat sitting experience.
For three years, I looked after an elderly cat called Nala. Over time, a quiet bond formed — built on trust, routine, and simply spending time together. Much of that time was slow and unhurried: sitting outside while she wandered the garden, or keeping a gentle, watchful eye as she slept nearby.
She was an older cat with complex needs, and caring for her taught me a great deal — not just about attentiveness and patience, but about the importance of familiarity and environment to a cat’s wellbeing.
When Nala passed away, I was with her.
It was a moment that stayed with me — not only because of the loss, but because it reinforced something her owners later shared with me: how much it meant that she was with someone she knew and trusted at the end of her life.
That experience brought a rare kind of clarity.
It made me realise that this is where my strengths truly lie — offering a calm, consistent presence for cats who need more attentive care.

At 19, Nala is the oldest cat I have cared for - every inch the Queen Mother.

Our elderly cat was sooo happy (loved the photos and videos Kara shared) and we felt that care and attention throughout our home on our return.

Your cat, in expert hands

Alongside my cat sitting experience, my work with organisations such as Cats Protection and the RSPCA has given me a strong understanding of feline welfare, behaviour, and care.
I have also completed training in cat behaviour through International Cat Care, alongside pet first aid training.
While I’m not a qualified veterinary professional, I bring a level of knowledge and expertise beyond that of a typical cat sitter — particularly when it comes to supporting elderly cats, those with medical needs, or more sensitive temperaments.

Writing & publications
I have written articles for The Cat, the UK magazine published by Cats Protection, helping to share practical guidance with cat owners.
I occasionally share observations in my Notes from the Nanny journal - a collection of writings on cat care, drawn from experience.
My approach is simple

...to be a familiar, reassuring presence in your home.
Someone who moves at your cat’s pace.
Who understands their routines, respects their space, and notices the small details that matter.
If you’re looking for a cat sitter in Sussex who will care for your cat with patience, sensitivity, and genuine attention — I would be delighted to help.
